Super 8

Super 8 video is a magical medium. It captures our memories both as they were and how we dream to remember them. It has the nostalgic feeling that makes you long for moments past, while giving the gift of nearly being able to relive them. Super 8 captures not only what happened, but also how it felt.

My Approach

My passion is capturing the emotion of a memory. I value authenticity over posed perfection. I strive to capture the authentic moments — the belly laughs, the wiped away tear, the stolen glances. The gestures that only you make. The moments that make you you. The memories that make this story yours. We don’t have to manufacture moments to capture your story beautifully. My job is to make you comfortable in front of the camera so that we can capture the magic that is you.

FAQs

  • The Kodak Company introduced Super 8mm film in 1965 as an easier, cheaper, and overall better option for home movies. As newer technologies were released, Kodak discontinued Super 8 cameras. Nearly all Super 8 cameras in use today are vintage from the 1970s. I have two!

Super 8 film is available in color and black and white varieties, and is becoming more widely available as Super 8 is having a resurgence in popularity. The film captures 18 frames per second, for a total of ~3.5 minutes of footage per cartridge.

  • Super 8 video does not record sound. During its height of popularity in the 1970s, Kodak did release a version of film that supported recording sound, but this model of film has since been discontinued.

I add music to Super 8 edited videos, and the soundless quality of the recording adds to the iconic nostalgic vibe.

  • Recording on film is not so different than recording on digital cameras. You can still zoom, cut, and capture the moment. However, recording on Super 8 is unique in that the recording captures only visual, not audio. Each cartridge captures about ~3.5 minutes of film. You can’t rewind and record over previously used film, so you must be intentional with what you capture. A little goes a long way. Film must also be developed, which in short means there is more risk involved with creating your video. With higher risk, the much higher the reward. Super 8 films are magic and the joy they create is unmatched (in my opinion).
